Grandparent’s Day Friday, May 31 and our Giant Quilt

On Friday, May 31 – Grandparent’s Day. As an annual event, Grade 5 students will be inviting their grandparents for lunch and a time of songs and dance.
Grandparents are like a warm and fluffy quilt. They surround and cover us with love and understanding , help protect us, and help us grow strong and wise. To honor them, we are encouraging each student in the school – not just Grade 5 - to purchase a 10” square of fabric and decorate it in any way they can with the names of their grandparents. We will collect all of the pieces and have them sewn together into a giant quilt.
Fabric pieces are available at a cost of $5.00 each. Yes, parents and grandparents can help out with this project - just request that the fabric be sent home. The names of participants will be entered in a draw for a
special gift and a special treat for the winner’s grandparents!

In Memory Donations

We have been overwhelmed by the number of families who have made donations in memory of their loved ones for our garden. We will be acknowledging these loved ones by including them in our garden. While we are not placing any deadlines on these donations, please be advised that on Build Day we will only be able to include the names of those given to us by WednesdayMay 29th . All others will be included after Build Day.

We're in for a treat...

Sis Lewis, grandmother of Luke and Ally Bennett, has generously donated a huge cake for Build Day!  Many thanks to you!!!

Grade 2 Students Help Us Reach Our Goal!

A Grade 2 student, Nathan Mahoney, was quite excited about giving a
donation to the Park, so much so that he took his two piggy banks unknown
to his mom and brought them to school. One of the piggy banks he had had
a lock put on it which he had asked his nanny for. When he got to school
he broke the lock on it and took all the money out of both piggy banks and
donated it to the play park.
Since then Nathan and Jaide Russell (also in Grade 2) have routinely
dropped off spare change to be put towards their park.

Corporal Jamie Brendan Murphy Community Park

Today, we proudly named our Play Park - Corporal Jamie Brendan Murphy Community Park.

Jamie Brendan Murphy was a corporal of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment Battalion Group (3 RCR Bn Gp). While serving with that unit's 3rd Battalion as part of Operation Athena, he was killed in KabulAfghanistan on January 27,2004 .  Corporal Murphy was just 26 at the time.  Corporal Murphy  loved his community, his province and his family, and he wanted to make sure he could contribute the kind of standards we take for granted … to other countries of the world. He wanted to create hope, and he gave his life for those beliefs.By naming the park in memory of Corporal Murphy, the park will be carrying on a legacy of love, hope and justice for generations to come.
